Bohemia Interactive today released DayZ Update 1.29 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. While originally planned as a smaller content update, its scope expanded significantly during the extended experimental phase, resulting in major technical improvements, firearm sound overhaul, and fresh content for DayZ Frostline expansion.
Among other changes, Update 1.29 focuses heavily on server stability and performance. Thanks to extensive testing and targeted optimizations, high-population servers saw higher FPS count and increased server performance by up to 400% in internal stress tests. Survivors can expect smoother gameplay, fewer performance warnings, and reduced lag across the board.
Key Features & Additions in Update 1.29
Terrain Upgrades
A major visual upgrade arrives with terrain blending improvements that tweak the transitions between surface types, which is an especially noticeable improvement on Sakhal and a key technology needed for the upcoming Nasdara map.
New DayZ Frostline Gear
The update introduces the largest set of winter-themed cosmetics to date, including new coats, boots, sweaters, and the new Long-Haul Backpack. Two new headdresses join the roster: Bear and Fox, the latter craftable using a fox pelt and leather sewing kit.
Firearm Audio Overhaul
Automatic rifles and pistols have received updated firing sounds, along with extended audibility ranges based on community feedback. Indoor and outdoor sound inconsistencies have also been corrected.
Group Respawn Adjustments
The group respawn system has been tuned to reduce repeat spawning in the same locations, with further balancing planned.
Xbox Series X|S Native Version
Update 1.29 also introduces the native version of DayZ on Xbox Series X|S, including support for the Windows version of Xbox and Xbox Play Anywhere. The upgrade lays the groundwork for future upgrades on current-generation hardware and is free for everyone who already owns DayZ on Xbox.
