Shortly after Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker hit the theaters, bringing a disgraceful end to our childhood dreams, we get the Obi Wan Kenobi fan video. And once again it is confirmed that passionate fans who make videos on a house budget can hit the Star Wars vibe better than Jar Jar Abrams or Rien Johnson.
Jedi Master Obi Wan Kenobi, after defeating Anakin Skywalker (who goes off to fully turn to the Dark Side and become Darth Vader) lingers on the desert planet Tatooine and is keeping an eye on the young Luke Skywalker and his foster parents Owen and Beru. However, Empire eventually comes to bring order to this Outer Rim desert planet, and Ben struggles between the need to leave the planet and save himself and his duty towards the young Skywalker kid.
The American actor Jamie Costa is the driving force behind the fan film. He has not only produced Kenobi, but also takes on the leading role. Funnily enough, he also looks quite similar to Ewan McGregor, the Obi Wan Kenobi of the prequels. He also gets his iconic “Hello, there” quite well.
Admittedly, this short fan film does not rise up to the quality of Darth Maul fan film, but is still an astonishing display of the fact that Star Wars fans can produce videos with more heart and feeling to them than the soulless Hollywood corporations. Go figure.
