I revisit old raid content and show players who never went to these instances what can and should be soloed to either experience these raids for the first time or to farm them for special loot, such as rare mounts.
Wrath of the Lich King
Icecrown Citadel
This is a very simple, straightforward solo run; the highly sought prize is, of course, Invincible’s Reins, Arthas’ faithful mount he brought back to life. Damn, this was probably the best expansion of World of Warcraft.
For the run itself, it is pretty simple, no bosses require any specific tactics, they are all easily squashed. The greatest threat is that you will get lost!
Still, there are few pointers you need to have in mind if you are doing this for the first time:
At the plagueworks, you need to kill the two abominations, Festergut and Rotface, and turn on the valves in their respective rooms. That will open up the gate towards Professor Putricide.
On the alliance airship battle, ask the little green fella for a rocket backpack – if you don’t manage to shoot down the horde ship and you lack the range, you will need to jump over and beat them up. But in Legion, I always managed to bring the horde ship with the gun and they fall away within seconds after the engagements starts.
Beware not to be blown of the platform when the Lich King starts fuffing and puffing. Can be rather embarrassing.
Cataclysm
Firelands
Following are important information for this old raid:
- the order you kill bosses doesn’t play much importance
- you need to kill a certain amount of trash to have Shannox spawn
- if you are lvl 110 with a DPS specc, you should be able to steamroll anything and not worry about any encounter tactics
- it is possible to solo all bosses on your own, there are no mechanics that require more than one player in this legacy raid
- there are three mounts connected to Firelands raid:
Flametalon of Alysrazor = Rare drop of alysrazor
Smoldering Egg of Millagazor = Rare drop from Rag normal, 100% chance from heroic
Corrupted Egg of Millagazor = Reward from meta achievement Glory of the Firelands raider
All the mounts you can get from soloing Legacy raids as of 7.0.3.
