Star Citizen Second Annual Ship Showdown Kicks off Two-week “Free Fly” Event Including Top Sixteen Community-selected Ships
Cloud Imperium Games are inviting invite new pilots to play Star Citizen for free. In recognition of the second annual Ship Showdown event — where veteran pilots celebrate their favorite vessels in the verse — Cloud Imperium Games is launching a special two-week “Free Fly” event for new players. Starting today and running until September 23, 2020, new players will have the rare opportunity to join the expanding universe in Star Citizen and test pilot the community’s “Top 16” favorite ships free of charge.

What: New pilots can fly for free in Star Citizen in celebration of the second annual Ship Showdown event. Choose from the “Top 16” most-voted-on ships selected by the Star Citizen community as prime representatives of the best and most iconic spacecraft in the game. During the Ship Showdown Free Fly celebration, new players can also look forward to special discounts on starter ship packs and a limited-time referral bonus granting a P-52 Merlin for players that refer a friend to Star Citizen. Boasting a centerline Gatling cannon and a Lightning Power engine, the Merlin is a fast, maneuverable ship that packs a surprising punch! Ideal for racing, local reconnaissance, and fast combat.
When: The Free Fly event for Star Citizen runs from 4 p.m. UTC September 9, 2020 through to 11:59 p.m. UTC September 23, 2020.

Expect more news and updates as community voting continues for the Star Citizen Ship Showdown event. Out of 80+ flyable ships in-game, the Star Citizen community chose their top 16; but the voting continues for the next two weeks to determine the absolute best ship in the game, when the last ship standing is crowned the ultimate Ship Showdown Champion. The “Final Four” ships in this Ship Showdown tournament, and the eventual Champion, will all receive in-game prizes for their players later in the year.
