Users on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit are said to have spotted it first, after which the name spread within hours.
The leaked description reportedly calls Afterworld “an original post-apocalyptic survival grand strategy game” in which you lead a tribe of survivors, rediscover ancient technology, manage wasteland settlements and wage wars of conquest and political struggle. If accurate, that would make it a new IP rather than a sequel; the community shorthand, per the same reports, quickly settled on Fallout by way of Civilization.
What Is Actually Confirmed
Only this much is official: Paradox itself has been teasing an announcement on X under a CanYouGuessPDX hashtag, promising answers at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday, 25 August. Coverage describes the teaser imagery as a sandstorm, a tattered flag and ruined modern skyscrapers, which fits the reported setting, but the publisher has named nothing.
